Linn LP 12 parts... (7/12)

linn logo.PNG

I have preceded with ordering substantial amounts of Linn LP 12 parts, power supplies in particular. Also, power supplies that are standard and quite excellent from 3rd party companies. This is for our client base in this region. Furthermore, in order to supplement our existing stock of Linn belts, that I am about to receive more significant amounts of Linn Belts on order.

I have received a few Linn Axis repairs orders. Sadly, the tables have been deemed "end of life" by Linn themselves quite a few years ago. This means , parts are really not produced any longer. The motor in particular. No motor, no table, it's really that simple. My Axis part inventory is running out. I may still mod or fix these, but before I proceed with anything , they must pass a motor stress test. I have a mountain load of other Linn parts as well that I will not be running out anytime soon.

The Linn Majik 109 speakers are now out of production. They had been in production since 2006, which is very long for any model to last. Does this mean the iconic Majik 140 is about to disappear. I have asked Linn to clarify the moment they can. It may mean that this will not happen.

Hercules II power supply and Majik LP 12 power supply

Linn Majik LP12 Power Supply.png

 hercules II.png

We carry both types of power supply nearly at all times, and we may be able to help you with your old LP 12. The older LP 12 motors that are 50Hz may need to be replaced with a 60Hz motor if one is looking at the Herc II p/s. At time of replacements, this job may in some cases, turn out to be a level 2 should we be lucky, but usually it turns out to be a TLC 3 level job.

I offer these exclusively to my clients. We don't ship these out.

Vintage LP 12 parts and more...

Sometimes LP 12 parts break, or stop working. Getting these may be very difficult. Everything under the Linn stars, may be available for you under our one roof. Just send me an email with the part you may need. I may be able to help you out without the gouging on Ebay. Even on Ebay, at time of writing, these are quite difficult to find.

Even shops that sell all kinds of banana plugs do not sell these.

Further, speaking of gouging, we have a very big bag of old new ( NOS ) Linn Banana plugs, you all us Linn freaks know the kind. We saw insane prices surrounding these very BNC plugs. Our prices are still and remain at 60.00 for a set of 4. Tons of stock and maybe for years to come.

Our system behind LP 12 works behind the scenes ( 13/11 ).

Most people will be able to confirm that when a LP 12 client calls for us to work on their tables, I get a little technical in response, and I attempt to tell you folks what level of service your table is to receive. I rarely make a mistake in my calls, but occasionally I do. I often ask for about 3 pics of your table. My eyes quickly assess where we must go. One often hears these codes like TLC 1 or TLC 2 and or TLC 3.

These codes just refer how much of a deep dive, I think I may have to do in order to make your TT's play as new or as close to new as possible. My very long held promise is to make your LP 12's sound beyond what you are used to, always apply without exception with my work.

First what does TLC mean ?. Simply just a cute way to say, Tender Loving Care. The higher we go number wise ; the more work is required. Before I start, I conduct a stress test on your LP 12. I am simply making sure that your motor is good for the long haul. No use TLC-ing your table if I will loose all the work done by placing said table on my jig upside down thereby wasting your hard-earned money in the process. I do this without fail. Its a must.

Also, Its like when you bring your car to the garage. You are charged parts and labor. No surprise there.

Let me clarify, for TLC 1, it's a relatively minor work load, usually no more than 1.5 hours or so. Usually, it's tweaking your baby back to health. Sometimes it's replacing an easily accessible part. I have, in my arsenal of Linn LP 12 parts, a vast if not monumental amount of these parts. I am willing to wager, more than any other Linn dealer on this N/A continent. I can even raise a dead LP 12 from the dead, but this lies outside my TLC codes, and it can be bloody expensive, why no TLC codes are applicable at this level. I will even let you know ahead of time if this is appropriate $ wise.

A TLC level 2, I begin to take a deeper look at all systems at play, from cartridge tip to phono cable. While I tend to do this at TLC 1, I tend to get more extreme in the way I inspect things. A TLC 2 tends to take no more than 3 or so hours till completion. More often than not, parts are thrown in on the expense tally on top of the work. Again, I carry most of everything at the multiple levels, which means I have everything to cover any level of intervention ON HAND. I have Linn carts, but some will need to be ordered. But everything else part wise is in stock.

A TLC Level 3 means a total rebuilding of an LP 12. This includes everything and quite often everything tends to be replaced as new, from Grommets to cart cables and everything in between, I have it all on hand. Because it's not a simple rebuild, it must be rebuilt, yes, but also totally readjusted, which is easier said than done. Do not look at your clock at this level, as it does take time to rebuild and tweak to fruition. So, I don't impose a time as the above levels.

In 2018 or so, I stopped installing third party LP 12 parts. As is happened, I occasionally did not like what they did to my work. You pay good money for my work, but alas I am not willing to sacrifice an ounce of performance. Also sometimes, as in everything, table can turn into Frankenstein tables. This means, they loose their soul and magic and yes I can hear it, but so will you sooner than later.

When things get hectic and busy, I initiate a color code that refers to wait time, Green, Yellow, Orange and Red. You have guessed, as you go up in color, the longer the wait time for my services. As winter sets in, it's not rare to see orange and red codes. You may have been recommended, let's say a cart by a dealer, if you know ahead of time that you will refer to my services, do let me know ahead of time the choice of carts, I can let you know whether the design is appropriate for any Linn arm.

Parts : I use Linn parts exclusively.

As this is being written, I have 4 LP 12's, mostly at the Level 3 to deal with. By next week, I will have 5. I will send pics to upload on our website. Its a fun way to keep you guys involved.

My services at this level are now quite fast to deliver, but I don't race with any of your tables. This is certainly true for Level 3 service. If you, by chance, change your mind in the middle of the process, especially Level 2 and 3, you will still be charged the labor for building back your defective table in the " as is " state. This happened once in my over 35 years. So why I say make sure you are certain that is what you want to do because you are charged for all involved labor. Also, should your table be battered and used up ( it happens actually ), it may well be its questionable to salvage it. Some out there say any LP 12 can be saved, yes, but and I say BUT, my experience is quite a bit different sadly. Difference between rebuilding back your table, and making it sound great again ( Hell I sound like Trump. yikes ). .. I am a hell of a lot more concerned about the latter.

I now work out from my home, always did for most of my LP 12 work with exception of minor work but now, it's here that all work happens, so delivering your table in the cities East end will be a must. One thing our client's like, is when I send pictorial follow ups of the tables, this way they can follow the progress. You boys get excited when I send pics to your cell phones. I am happier to oblige.

I hope this helps clarify the services rendered to you fine gents :)

Our over 34 year history with Linn analogue.

linn logo.PNG

Where the Linn Lp 12's are concerned, our name is attached to this Table as much as a few other now deceased and or since retired and elderly actors. One of these pioneers, the most iconic Terry Richardson, the only true and very close best friend in this industry that I hold dear. I was formally trained by Linn UK, one of the last courses I later heard. Also trained on 2 occasions by Linn Canada with their well established expert (G Gagnon). Truth be told I had already worked on LP 12's quite a bit by my 1st training course.

Fast forward till today, I count now over 1,400 Lp 12's worked on. I keep count and yes, I take pics of all of them since the digital camera came out. I carry a ton of inventory for either maintenance or some/most repairs. Oh, yes, on further sell Linn and new Linn Lp 12's on the side ;).

We can cover your Lp 12 needs in this region. Now that I have gravitated to semi-retirement this December 2022, wait times will be greatly shortened. No more of these god forsaken wait time's that were the norm as I ran a successful business. Roger and I will add a great many pics on the Lp 12, maybe others as well. Hang loose till 2023 rolls around.

I will be back guys.

Our recent LP 12 Clinik is now terminated for this year. Now its time to take care of the forthcoming repairs and mods. At this time, we have 5 LP 12s on hand. A word to the wise, some Montreal clients are knocking at our door. This is somewhat normal, but not with what we are seeing at present numbers wise and in our close future.

Roger has just uploaded... (18/12)

...a first article detailing our Linn LP 12's. I chose to streamlining the pictorial evidence, much more could have been added. What for? I was surprised on how many have passed through my finger in the last 2 years despite the pandemic and my semi-retirement. I've just purchased over 6,000.00 worth of different power supplies... and over 1k of fresh Linn Belts . This is how I have kept busy , aside from selling to our clients.

Please don't forget that our LP 12 Clinik is getting a tad full, now midway through the available spot. This takes place in early 2024. We may have to modify our website. We will both see Roger and I, where this goes. It's kind of major. Thats is all I say for now folks.

Happy Holidays, and Happy listening folks

Luc

Major Linn LP 12 Clinik in early 2024. Details should be uploaded on our Lp 12Clinik webpage quite soon.

2024 Linn LP 12 Clinik

linn logo 2.jpeg

In our upcoming 35th year "professionally" working on LP 12 and Linn Axis turntable, I've ended up working a lot of tables, not just Linn. I've also worked on the LP 12's that belonged to two old Canadian LP 12 warriors, one of them a very close friend of mine. It's rather telling that I would work on both their LP 12s, one so many moons ago and the other just in 2022. Both Terry and Gary have moved on beyond the stars. A full circle moment as it were for yours truly as I look into the end of my line in a short few years's time. My commercial brand around the Linn LP 12 runs quite deep. The experience I bring forth is long and publicly established. A lot of dedication and experience contributed to this natural link with the Linn brands and our reputation with the analogue side of things.

Ok guys, enough bragging folks. This message is to advise our public that we will have a Linn LP 12 clinik ( when you talk Linn, the Cs become Ks ). There will be a Linn LP 12 clinik in early 2024, like it's never seen before. I've made sure our back up inventory of Linn parts is at level for this event.

A Linn LP 12 clinik is meant to provide a Level 1 intervention. It's something that can be done usually under 1 hours. So not quite TLC 1 level. I will have room for about 15 or so LP 12's. Servicing and labor is free, parts needed are charged. Get in touch with me via email, and send 2 or 3 pics of your table, I should be able to see where your LP 12 is at and whether it can be included. Clients that have Linn LP 12 repairs, can still bring these in, but I will not be able to touch these until those other gents are taken care off. Why ? Only because repairing these cannot be done in the time frame I have under a " Clinik " setting.

So... now you guys know... a Linn LP 12 clinik is being worked on by Roger and I. Details will be formalized no later than mid December... Reserve your spots folks.

LP 12, the turntable that turns heads!

linn-sondek-lp-12.jpg

Sometime soon , Linn will be coming out with another iconic model called the LP 12-50. Details are to come out very soon, but they will be making 250 models worldwide. Consider this edition as a reach for the star model. They are likely to sell in a flash, at 50,000 Euro. Maybe a few in Canada, but mostly in Europe where this line has much traction.

But on the rare occasion, they come up with a bit of a deal with their basic Majik model. For a limited time, till the end of August, newly purchased Majik LP 12 will come with a Linn Koil cartridge. Further, your new LP 12 will be built by yours truly, free, this comes included in the price, this old boy's reputation is far established for doing good work. I am joined at the hip with this puppy. I am a huge fan of the Linn Uphorik phono stage, you can take this component wherever you want. Ultra musical and Ultra quiet as in... crystal quiet. I have mine set up on a Akurate (now called a Selekt model) LP 12.

Should we be of service, by all mean, give us a call or an email.

Just as we will be returning from a well deserves summer break, dare I say, as we both leave for this, Kris and I will be working on the Linn display system for the LP 12 Clinik. We will be fronting the Linn system with our top seller Magnepan 1.7's. Just as we'll be fine tuning this system, WireWorld cables will be at the fore front for the remainder of the month of July and August.

Kris and I will be ready for those that bring your LP 12 for a look and see.

Linn is swinging hard with new add on's for their LP 12.

linn sondek lp12.png

Effective today, The Lp 12 will start to sport 6 or so different and new options. These Lp 12's will equally be called something else. Every model is being touched and tweaked with exception of the Klimax.

Majik LP 12's will now come in 2 models, one in MM and the other Magik Twin will be in MC. The Akurate Lp 12 will now be called the SELEKT Linn Lp 12. New arms and cartridges will be added, and some older skews are now being discontinued in the weeks to come, or till stock runs out.

More info is now available on the Linn website. Don't forget our incoming LP 12 clinik July 23rd. For those that emailed me, I do not charge for anything while this LP 12 clinik is ongoing. However should you need some parts or a belt, those are charged. Equally, I cannot proceed with any repairs.

Of course a Linn system will be playing all day folks.

linn logo 2.jpeg

linn majik dsm.png

As we just started dealing with Linn, we did notice plenty of new components that were just starting to be released into the market place. Then when it was time we bit, these many new moves from Linn were available to be brought in into the Ottawa market place. It was an easy insertion.

linn majik dsm banner.jpg

What comes out as NEW and revised, are the Linn Lp 12, a NEW Krane analogue arm, the NEW Karousel bearing which we will all have on display on our sales floor.

linn krane.png

Entirely revised and NEW Majik DSM and NEW Sekrit DSM. But we will also receive NEW Linn Majik 140 speakers. We will be adding further to these skews. I have a good idea, but shhhh, its a state secret for now. We will be able to demonstrate a full Linn system and for those many that have not heard any Linn, perhaps when the markets open up again, well, give us a call.

linn majik 140 speaker .png

Linn calls this " the first step into serious Hi Fi, we agree. The Linn Majik 140's have been in production for 15 years, and without a doubt I am quite certain these have been refreshed like most companies would do this. They have the capacity to be placed in active mode, or passive. They are relatively full range, more so in active mode ( you need a full Linn system to go active ), and they still sell well worldwide. We recommend combining the 140's with a Linn system, but hint hint, Naim components have always went extremely well with Linn speakers ( but one will be incapable of going active ). BTW, the inverse was also true, when Naim made their own speakers Linn always sang beyond near belief when associated Naim speakers.

We will look forward to demonstrating our entire Linn set up's later in the year when Covid starts to leave us.

linn logo 2.jpeg

Welcome back Linn Hi Fi just in time for 2021.

linn logo 2.jpeg

The many new insertions of bigger companies is our contribution to maintaining the best we can a steady and stronger supply chain for our clients. This attempts in pushing this through will be solidified this beginning in 2021. By providing Linn we will be able to provide added options where technology are concerned. From either Exactbox technology, analogue Linn Lp 12 parts and repairs and display, amplifiers and streamer. Also add to this Linn active speaker. Our orders were just on the verge to being sent, but have been delayed as Covid shutdowns are happening worldwide, including in Scotland.

We are hoping to receive the many skews very soon.

Funk Firm mats NEW

Linn Lp 12

linn logo 2.jpeg

Our return into service will be done efficiently as we can, however we will be entertaining some delays with our Linn Lp 12 works, repairs and rebuilds. We have several new Linn LP 12's that we need to build from the ground up. I will make sure I place some pictures of this work on this very website. I even have some pics of a rather intensive repair and refurbishment job that I did right before Xmas for one of our clients. The client was very happy, both for the work done (he had never heard it sound so good) and for the fact I busted both nuts delivering said refurb right before Xmas.

For our new clients, we only use original Linn parts, as well as belts for your Lp 12. We also have most likely the worlds largest LP 12 micro parts selection. Where our approach to fixing your LP 12 up... Expect a wait time, as we do these repairs without rush, always...and I mean... always. With the departure of Steven, I should be able to use his desk to work on any table, this fact should help make the process faster.

Lastly, on a particular forum ( CAM ) its stated that we do not fix Lp 12 anymore. At the time, when the gent called us, our Steven stated we did not and he was right. I needed to take a break from fixing tables. Soon after that time, I did return back after taking a 2 year break. I can now say I keep a smile on my face when I fix your beloved Lp 12's.

How our return may play out.

We can venture we will be hit hard. We're officially opening up next week. This week has reserved how our return to commercial activity will be... we suspect it will be hectic and you folks will keep us very busy. With our Stevie Wonder out of the picture and retired, there will be some dancing and adapting on our parts. Right our of the gate, we will be catching with quite a few clients. Organizing our shop will be the order of the day in this first week.

We will have to catch up with a phenomenal 6 Linn LP 12 work orders, plus 2 new builds. Its a lot of work. We have simplified our Tables offerings. Now we carry Linn and Funk Firm. Our entry will be met by a complete Linn system for a few weeks, then a Naim system. Magnepan is extremely popular at this time, so we will need to respond and make sure our floor models are playing hard and plenty good for this summer.

We will be taking a shortened vacation time sometime in August when most are away. We will know more later as to timing.

Other than that, the above carries us well into August. So plenty to going on this summer. Our website will equally be kept vibing and vibrant.

Linn all in one units.

linn logo 2.jpeg

I rushed a buying spree in late 2020, hastily preparing for what seemed for our 2nd Covid lock down. I was right, it happened. Without skipping a beat, this permitted me to burn in at home some most wonderful gear. The Naim Star took forever to burn in. When the markets came back in active mode, Naim was front and center, because burning was central on the Naim side of things. We've been doing Naim long enough to know how a burned in Naim unit sounds like. But before we had time to fully burn in our Naim, we were facing a 3rd lock down. So Naim came back home and burn in continued. I am happy to report that our Naim is now burned in.

As stated in another article, I am glad to say our return will be full of these 1 box wonders that are very musical and yes high end in every way. But both these lines have been sculpted and as for Naim reduced in order to make sense in our present market place. There are some wait times associated with both lines, but not as much as some of our other line up. Our new beginnings will take shape with these types of products. So welcome back folks, so now you know what awaits you all.

Zut alors... the story about the Linn LP 12 we work on.

linn majik lp12.png

I was working on a real vintage LP 12, once owned by a well-known LP 12 teck fella down south that passed away. That table was definitely old, had been repaired but one sensed that it has been respected and taken care of throughout its life. He was a precise in his ways, nice to see for a change.

I had to replace the arm... and even though vintage 12s are easy to work on, you hit rules of un- intended consequences. I hate those, this one, the previous owner's ghost was throwing them at me nonstop. Lot of parts with LP 12's, but once I was in the middle of the job with that vintage 12, it dawned on me it was like I had thrown a grenade or 2 on my benches. I should have taken a pic or 2, I always do, I now regret it.

Just that pic alone would have explained why I had to walk away of this outside LP 12 work and only do ours. But admittingly it would have been cool for you guys to see before and after. Once the structure is all good and built, then we must proceed to adjusting it as well as to oiling, adjusting symmetry, VTA, Cart alignment, etc . A lot of good work there, but this work will come back to me after I retire to make a bit of red wine money (don't freak out u mother's. ..I'm not retiring !!! ;)).

Roger and I will be adding a lot of LP 12 pics of some tables that could not be saved, and to many new ones that were pictured in different state of dress. I started to take pics of my work about one hundred, or more tables ago. I did not count, but let's say... LOTS. Never thought of starting from the get go... problem, cell and digital cameras did not exist then.

In the new year, I will explain what has been affected in our new Analogue ways and what has not. It will be clear and concise. Something tells me it will be a heavy year where new LP 12 sales are going to be at.

Just make sure you enjoy the pics when we upload them. Cheers.

We making much headway with...

linn select dsm.png

Burning in much of our new gear at home. Just this week alone we're taken out another 3 new components that will see the light of day as this is being written. This is one thing I did not want to touch, but we may change our ways and simply do our burn in at work instead at home.

Several new pieces from Linn will be introduced. As we rush this burn in, we have equally formalized our planned weekly reopening this coming September. We have several new pieces of new Naim gear that are now ready to be introduced this late summer. We know this world of ours is complicated, but we would still like to push this demonstration venues over the long haul. Guess what, we still have much to introduce.

We have seen 3 cycles of LRT construction, and not 2 as stated elsewhere. Yes these are harsh on accessibility, but they do end eventually. We just had the bad fortune of following these planned projects Eastward. As I tend to do, we always plan an event when this construction ends.

I have stolen my Naim Uniti Star for the summer, while I get busy with all our vacation times. Don't worry it will come back folks.

As an extension of the above article for AN, Linn has chosen for the most part an all out on display for everybodies eyes, pricing per skew on their website. It's also in Canadian dollars. We got involved with Linn again over 2 and half year ago. We've been the only Ottawa based dealer that have been able to financially entertain this revered and iconic British line up historically. Its not a cheap line up and like all other line up, prices have been raised. We cover most general Linn skews from Analogue to amps, pre's, sources to speakers.

We will be looking forward to dedicating a Linn webpage quite shortly, just as available Audio Note.

Keep an eye on our website for more info.
